My Top 5 Daytime Lipstick Shades

In the last two years or so, I can count how many times I’ve worn lipstick on my two hands. Shocking, I know!

It’s that last step I always forget. I also have an issue with some dark pigmentation, and I feel very self-conscious when I wear colour. It’s silly, but I guess in a way my lack of colour has been deliberate. To kick those self-doubts to the curb, I’m stepping out with all of my favourite lip shades and it feels so good!

I prefer myself in pinks or dusky rose type shades, and I like shine but I hate gloss. My top five are quite similar, yes, but allow me to explain…

My ride or die is MAC’s Crème inYour Coffee, a dusky pink with brown undertones, and not as bright as it appears swatched. It’s the first MAC lipstick I ever bought, and it’s a Cremesheen. Totally comfortable, ridiculously beautiful, and I can forgive the measly four hour wear time.

YSL’s Rouge Volupte No.1 is a reddish brown glossy shade that I really like, despite how sheer and patchy it is. It’s tame, and I’m a chicken who’s scared of bright reds so it’s a win/win. The formula is quite drying after a few hours, but I like the stain it leaves when it fades so I won’t complain.

When I can’t make up my mind, Revlon’s Lip Butter in Pink Truffle is my fail safe. It’s uber buttery and glossy, and the prettiest baby pink that transfers quite nicely when it finally fades, although it lasts a good long while! If I’m too lazy to re-apply, I’ll just use a lip balm and I’m good to go!

My favourite nude, is Revlon’s Mink. The name says it all, but it doesn’t translate well as a swatch. It’s much deeper, more like a creamy and sultry brown with a very slight reddish undertone. I use it on night’s out too, but it’s just as wearable during the day, and it lasts a long while.

The difference between Rouge Volupte No.1 and No.2 is subtle. So subtle it’s a little ridiculous I bought them both at the same time. But No.2 has a berry tint to it instead of red. It’s like MAC’s Love Thing Mineralize Blush in a lipstick. When it fades, I look punch drunk and I’m not going to lie, I rather like that a lot!

Favourites || January

Back at home in Cyprus over the holiday, I slept in my sister’s bedroom and I kept sniffing a tiny bottle of YSL’s Black Opium she had on her desk. It’s such a sexy, grown up fragrance that I can’t get enough of, and it’s different than anything I own. It also reminds me of her, so that’s a great bonus.

Old favourites include Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer in No.35(thank you Superdrug for those vile security stickers on everything that don't come off!), and my Bobbi Brown Corrector in Dark Peach. I’ve been using the Corrector to help hide some dark pigmentation, and I forgot how beautiful and creamy the Fit Me Concealer is. It’s a good one for highlighting!

I mentioned in my Brow Kit post that I needed to switch brow pencils, so I finally tried the Anastasia Brow Wiz! I’m super late to the party, but I’m completely sold! It’s not too waxy or too hard, and I could even skip powder because it just looks completely perfect on its own! I get the hype, I really get it!

I lost a nail this month, and it was a horrible break that’s going to take a while to fix. Until my nails get back to the length I prefer, I’ll be using my Revlon ColourStay Gel Envy nail polish in shade 535 called Perfect Pair.

My favourite of the lot are the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads. I have never seen my skin glow like this before! My skin is ridiculously dewy and completely even in texture. I was really frustrated with how patchy my skin was looking but that hasn’t been a problem since I started using these pads. They’re soaked in lactic and glycolic acids, liquorice root and lemon peel, which sounds all kind of wonderful!

I bought the smaller container because I wasn’t sure how long they’d last before drying out, but a month in, and they’re still going strong!
